The National Archaeological Museum in Athens is the largest museum in Greece and one of the most important in the world. Its original purpose was to store and catalogue the artefacts discovered during 19th century excavations within Attica. Gradually the museum’s collection was enriched with priceless finds from all parts of the Greek world.
